I AM A SAFETY PROFESSIONAL

"Being a safety professional means . . . you need to care about others, because your job is to help people be safe at work, and return to their homes safely at the end of the day."

What does it mean to you to be a safety professional?

For me, being a safety professional, means that I have to be a responsible and dedicated professional. You need to care about others, because your job as a safety professional is basically to help people to be safe at work and return to their homes safely at the end of the day.

What led you to a career in safety?

When I was in Colombia, I was studying industrial engineering and my last semester I took a class about health and safety. It was the first time in my career that I've seen how all the things that I learned before actually impact workers, communities, and their families. That's why I decided to start working on safety.

How has ASSP helped you as a safety professional?

ASSP has helped me a lot. They were my first contact when I decided to move to the U.S. I contacted them to find out which university I wanted to do my master's. And then when I was studying, I was part of a student chapter in the university and that helped me a lot to get to know more professionals in the industry.
