What does it mean to you to be a safety professional?

For me, being a safety professional boils down to purpose and passion. In this field, we strive every day to prevent injury, to prevent illness, and to prevent fatalities. That is great purpose. And so we go forward, and we may instill culture, or climate, or write policy, or implement practice, or support others to take great agency in their own safety and well-being.

How has ASSP helped you as a safety professional?

I joined ASSP as soon as I got out of college and started my career. It was one of the very first professional organizations that I joined, so I have been a member for a long time. And there's a reason for that. ASSP is a very respected organization, and I wanted to be affiliated early on with that type of organization. And throughout my career, it really has supported me in my profession, whether through networking with peers or expanding my knowledge base. It is one of the most trusted and respected voices of our profession, not only to government agencies, but to other entities. And I believe that that brings great respect and confidence in us as safety professionals, when we have an organization out in front being the face of us.
