Join us in welcoming the King Khalid University Student Section! The institution is the first university in Saudi Arabia to offer a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health (OSH) engineering — and the section's formation as part of our Kuwait Chapter reflects the expansion of the institution's occupational safety engineering program.
"This milestone highlights the university’s commitment to providing innovative programs that meet the demands of the labor market and contribute to safer working environments," says Faculty Advisor Mohammed Al Awadh, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Industrial Engineering Department. He says the program's growth also reflects the university's efforts to support the Saudi Vision 2030 goals to enhance national safety standards and develop a highly skilled workforce.
The university currently has more than 120 students actively completing coursework, projects and initiatives related to safety management, risk assessment and environmental health.
"Students are the foundation of our profession’s future," says Andrea Ball, CSP, ARM, Vice President of ASSP's Council on Region Affairs. "Their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas will shape the global workplace. We're thrilled to support the continued growth of our profession around the world."
Al Awadh says the section will help the university achieve several key objectives such as enhancing students' skills to prepare them for success in the workforce; encouraging research and innovation to create sustainable solutions; improving work and educational environments and developing national expertise in safety; and strengthening students' leadership and managerial abilities, empowering them to take responsibility and help create safer workplaces.
