The 153rd Airlift Wing, Wyoming Air National Guard hosted our Rocky Mountain Chapter for a lunch-and-learn session in which SMSgt Brad Mercil, safety superintendent for the 153rd Airlift Wing and Rocky Mountain Chapter Secretary, discussed his role in safeguarding airmen, protecting resources and preserving combat readiness.
Mercil discussed the three safety disciplines he oversees including OSH, flight safety, and weapons and explosive safety. He also provided an overview of the various safety programs he manages including the Air Force safety management system, facility inspections and program assessments, incident response and investigation, risk management, and hazard reporting and abatement.
Attendees toured a C-130H Hercules cargo aircraft and met with aircraft maintainers, flight engineers and loadmasters for questions. “It is important to share our policies, procedures and best practices with other safety experts so that we can all learn and collectively make the safety industry better,” says Mercil.
Hosting a lunch-and-learn session is a great way for ASSP chapters to provide education, hands-on learning and offer network opportunities to fellow safety professionals. What is your chapter doing? Tell us about your event or chapter activities.
