BCSP Foundation recently convened the first Biennial Research and Innovation Summit in Indianapolis, IN, bringing together safety leaders from around the world to discuss translating safety knowledge to safety practice. During the event, panels addressed OSH research as well as practical application of the knowledge gleaned from that research to meet industry needs in protecting people, property and the environment. The summit was attended by safety professionals, educators, researchers and students who collaborated during breakout sessions and roundtable events to address these issues.

The summit opened with an executive panel, which discussed the impact of research on the future of safety. ASSP CEO Jennifer McNelly joined Treasa Turnbeaugh, BCSP’s CEO; Chris Trahan Cain, executive director of CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training; Dawn Castillo, director of NIOSH’s Division of Safety Research; and John Dony, director of the Campbell Institute.

By bringing research and innovation together, we get to the point of application, where knowledge can be turned into improvements in occupational safety," says Turnbeaugh. "Support for research and innovation is an investment, and summit attendees, presenters and partner organizations are making that investment for the strategic advancement of safety, health and environment practice."

“Through this summit, BCSP Foundation provided an opportunity for safety leaders worldwide to share and learn,” says McNelly. “By collaborating with our partners in safety, ASSP is supporting the future of safety by striving to build on the knowledge and research of today.”
