We have released a five-part video series to guide safety professionals through the main steps of the ASSP TR-Z590.5-2019 Technical Report: How to Develop and Implement an Active Shooter/Armed Assailant Plan. The videos outline specific steps and strategies to prepare for an active shooter/armed assailant incident at a facility, such as determining risks and vulnerabilities, instituting hard and soft controls at a site, developing training and drills for employees, planning for post-incident response and business continuity, and conducting periodic plan audits.

The videos feature conversations with Chris Combs, special agent in charge of the FBI San Antonio field office, Anthony Trevino, Assistant Chief at the San Antonio Police Department, Psychotherapist John Reininger M.A., LMHC, FAPA, Jody LaVoie, JL Strategic Advisors LLC, and Brian Hammer, Chair of the ASSP TR-Z590.5 Committee.

“I want business owners to act today,” says LaVoie. “Put this topic on your next leadership team meeting. Evaluate the culture of your organization. Do you support a culture of safety and zero tolerance for all types of workplace violence? What is your company doing to address this issue and ensure your workplace is prepared?”
