Our Western Pennsylvania Chapter’s two student sections recently hosted an event to help students prepare for a successful job search in OSH. Hosted by our Slippery Rock University (SRU) Student Section and our Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Student Section, the event offered career services to help students learn more about resume writing, interviewing techniques and body language.
The event also offered students an opportunity to participate in mock interviews. University faculty members and Western Pennsylvania Chapter professional members provided students with feedback, tips and encouragement to help students launch a successful job search.
John Rindy, Ed.D., SRU’s Director, Office of Career Education and Development, delivered a presentation on making use of the university’s career facilities as well as the importance of resumes. Tammy Manko, Ed.D., IUP’s Director, Career and Professional Development Center, gave a presentation on interviewing and body language.
“These students are the future of the OSH profession,” says Wayne Vanderhoof, CSP, President of our Western Pennsylvania Chapter. “As today’s OSH professionals, it’s our duty to support and encourage students, providing guidance and mentoring to future OSH professionals. If we do not support today’s students, we are abandoning the future of our profession.”
