Reporting on OSH Metrics to Advance Organizational Decision Making

Safe Work Australia, a national policy body in Australia, has published a report that explores the processes for gathering and communication workplace safety and health performance information to guide organizational decision making.

"Poor work health and safety decisions can have a detrimental impact on the lives of individuals and their families, on the financial, interpersonal and reputational health of a business and, potentially, on the wider community," report authors Sharon O'Neill and Karen Wolfe say. "Conversely, effective WHS management contributes to lower preventable costs and business risk, higher productivity and profitability and greater organizational success."

This work ties in well with the work being conducted by Center for Safety and Health Sustainability (CSHS), which advocates for integrating occupational safety metrics and performance into an organization’s business model and thinking. CSHS has produced three reports that aim to help the OSH community understand and advocate for the key role of OSH in corporate sustainability:
