Safety News You Need: OSHA Update

This week's Safety News You Need highlights presidential executive action on COVID-19 guidance; adjustments to OSHA civil penalties; an agreement between OSHA and EPA on improving worker safety;  and new OSHA guidance on COVID-19 prevention.

  • President Joe Biden signed an executive order directing OSHA to update COVID-19 safety recommendations for businesses, and to consider whether an emergency temporary standard is necessary. Read more
  • OSHA has adjusted its civil penalty amounts based on 2021 cost-of-living increases. These adjustments include increases to the maximum penalties for serious and other-than-serious violations, as well as for willful or repeat violations. Read more
  • EPA and OSHA have signed a memorandum of understanding that provides a framework for coordination and communication on exposure to new chemicals in the workplace. Read more
  • A new OSHA tip sheet offers guidance on preventing farmworker exposure to COVID-19 in employer-provided vehicles. These include both administrative and engineering controls, as well as encouraging workers to practice good hygiene. Read more
