Kathleen “Kate” Crawford, CHST, OHST, SMS, has been appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to the Cal/OSHA Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, a group that promotes, adopts and maintains reasonable and enforceable standards that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for California workers. The seven-member body is responsible for reviewing and approving applications for variances from adopted standards and petitions for new or revised standards.
Crawford, a member of our San Francisco Chapter as well as the Society’s Women in Safety Excellence Common Interest Group and Construction Practice Specialty, has been the director of safety and health at Hensel Phelps since 2015. She has been an active participant in many rulemaking projects and has held various safety-focused positions throughout her career.
“I am so honored to have been appointed to the Standards Board,” says Crawford. “I believe my passion for helping people and experience in the construction and facility management sectors will bring a unique perspective that will help protect workers across the state of California. I look forward to partnering with The Division, Labor, and all other stakeholders to fulfill our mission of reasonable and enforceable standards.”
