Our student section at Thiel (pronounced “teal”) College in Greenville, PA, has hit the ground running, reflecting the success of the institution's environmental safety management major that officially launched last fall.
Last fall, three members of the section attended the ASSP Western Pennsylvania Chapter's Professional Development Conference hosted by the ASSP Indiana University of Pennsylvania Student Section. Besides attending technical presentations, they staffed a table to tell attendees about the new major.
"It was a great opportunity to get the word out about the program and network at the same time," the group says.
In January, several members attended the annual OSHA update from the area director, an event presented by the ASSP Northwest Pennsylvania Chapter. Student members may also attend the National Safety Council Expo in Pittsburgh in March.
In addition, section members will help the Environmental Science Department with its annual events including Earth Day for grade school students and a new event that will introduce high school students to opportunities in environmental science and safety management.
Welcome to the ASSP family, Thiel College Student Section and faculty advisor P. David Shafer III!
