For the second time in less than five years, the ASSP student section at Illinois State University has been named the Outstanding Student Section of the Year. The student section is part of the Central Illinois Chapter.
The group was strong in all three critical requirements – professional development, research, and campus and community Involvement. The award committee was impressed with the group's research on machine guarding for agricultural harvest equipment.
"The quality of research and student involvement conducted by the smaller group of ASSP student members was outstanding," the committee says. The number and variety of quality meetings was impressive as well.
Faculty advisor Paul Ronczkowski and the section's executive officers will accept the award during Safety 2019 in New Orleans, LA, and they will presenting their research during the Academic Forum on Wednesday, June 12.
For winning the award, the student section will receive $6,000 to fund scholarships, research and travel for one member to Safety 2019. The other qualifying student sections will receive a $500 stipend from ASSP.
