Members of our Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Student Section recently visited Walt Disney World for an on-site technical tour hosted by Central Florida Chapter members.
The first stop was Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park, where the students met with Disney safety professionals Krista Scarborough, Tiffany Belasco and Gabbie Pace (the chapter's Emerging Professionals chair) and leaders from Walt Disney World Waterparks operations. The safety team discussed occupational and construction safety aspects related to the waterpark operation and the associated construction downtime.
The students also visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios where Central Florida Chapter Vice President Emily Schoonover and Awards and Honors Chair Heather Earl presented Student Section President Matthew Lawson with the annual chapter scholarship. The group then toured the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, where students were able to walk on the stage while Daymond Hill discussed the in-depth hazard analysis required for the stunt show and the mitigations implemented based on that analysis. The students watched the show from the VIP viewing area, with one selected to be an extra in the show.
The chapter members also provided career advice and interview preparation tips, and took the students on a walkthrough of the park's new Toy Story Land. The students were thrilled and the chapter looks forward to continued partnership with ERAU.
