PARK RIDGE, Illinois — Two new occupational safety and health books debut at the Safety 2018 Professional Development Conference & Exhibition held June 3-6 in San Antonio.
Safety Leadership and Professional Development, edited by Richard Olawoyin and Darryl C. Hill, provides a road map that defines the safety profession and promotes leadership and professional development. With contributions from academic and industry leaders, the major sections focus on ethics, leadership and management; certification and accreditation; professional development; technical aspects such as risk assessment and hazard recognition; and workplace culture.
The book is a valuable read for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students, certification trainees, and occupational safety and health professionals.
“The book should be required reading for new safety professionals and for students preparing for their first safety position,” said Paul Specht, Ph.D., CSP. “It addresses topics that are often overlooked or under-researched in more technical publications. It covers the key elements of successful safety and health programs, and more importantly, offers the methodologies for their implementation.”
During Safety 2018, authors Olawoyin and Hill will be on hand for an informal meet-and-greet from 9:30 to 10:30 am Monday, June 4, in the Marketplace of the second-floor Park View Foyer at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
Fred Manuele on Safety Management is written by Fred Manuele and edited by Professional Safety’s Tina Angley. Manuele is a longtime thought leader in workplace safety whose many writings have influenced the profession and inspired some of the industry’s most prominent authors, leaders, speakers and educators.
The book highlights the significance of Manuele’s work by presenting a collection of his contributions that have appeared in the Society’s flagship journal over decades. Topics include serious injuries and fatalities, risk assessments, prevention through design, acceptable risk, and occupational safety and health management systems.
“Fred is a legend in our industry who has played an important role in shaping advancements in workplace safety and health,” said Tim Fisher, the Society’s director of standards and technical services. “His deep knowledge and expertise become evident when you begin reading his thought-provoking insights into safety management.”
After the conference, the books will be available for purchase on the Society’s new website.
