Charles J Keeling JR, CHST

Biography

Charlie has over 45 years of safety experience in Occupational Safety & Health, Fire Prevention and Investigation, as well as Public Safety in Law Enforcement. Charlie holds a BS Degree in Community and Human Services, with Concentration in Fire & Emergency Management from SUNY Empire State College and a AAS Degree in Fire Protection Technology and Certificate in Fire Investigation from Suffolk County Community College. Charlie is an independent safety consultant and owner of CJK Safety Consulting, LLC; providing a wide range of safety related services. Charlie’s is a Safety & Regulatory Compliance Specialist in the Utility Industry, a Construction Health Safety Technician, Certified Utility Safety Professional & NYS Certified Workplace Safety Consultant. Employment experiences include Electric Utility, Safety Director at a major Scrap Recycling Company, Safety Manger in construction where he was assigned to the NYC World Trade Center Recovery, Clean-up and Rehabilitation Project, as well as Sewage Treatment Plant Construction projects. Furthermore, Charlie retired from NYC Police Department after 20 years of service. Additionally, he spent 25 years as a Volunteer Fire Fighter on Long Island, attaining rank of Assistant Chief, while also accomplishing Level 1 NYS Fire Investigator and NYS EMT. Charlie has been an active member with ASSP for the last 22 years. He is currently the Region VIII Metro Area Director, Past President, Long Island Chapter, past Chapter Delegate, and recipient of the LI Chapter Safety Professional of the Year award in 2010. Platform Statement

I am honored once again to be able to submit my nominations for the position of Region VIII Metro Area Director. With my current term expiring, I have the desire to continue to lead the metro area with the goal to have all chapters reach their full potential of platinum status. I have been a member for of ASSP for over twenty years now. I am a past president of the Long Island Chapter and a Chapter SPY recipient. Its been my affiliation with ASSP and its members that has helped me in my career as a safety professional. That same affiliation has fostered many professional and personal relationships. My desire to continue also includes the potential for mentoring new safety professionals and leaders by submitting a presentations to future leadership conferences based on my years of experience. I believe in collaboration efforts to accomplish goals and objectives. In my many years of careers as a safety professional, Volunteer firefighter and police officer, collaboration has been key in accomplishing objectives, One goal is to get metro chapter leaders together quarterly for round table discussions for meetings and events, such as speaker suggestions and recommendations. My previous goal of encouraging chapter growth, retention, networking, education, and participation through inclusive and collaborative brainstorming sessions continues with my next term In addition, I will continue to ensure chapters fulfill their ASSP requirements and provide necessary leadership chapters may call upon should difficult times arise. In closing, it’s my long-developed network of safety professionals that I can call upon for support, advice and guidance when needed that has influenced my decision to once give back to t ASSP
