About ASSP

Our Society Operating Guidelines describe in detail the manner in which American Society of Safety Professionals is structured and governed. They are intended to accompany and be consistent with ASSP bylaws.

Section 5.2: Appointment Procedures for Councils and Committees and Task Forces

I. Procedure

Council/committee appointments will be made annually according to the following process. Task force appointments will be made on a rolling basis, in alignment with the individual task force’s approved business plan. This process must also be used to fill vacancies on councils/committees/task forces. ASSP is committed to engaging a broad representation of members in a leadership capacity; every effort will be made to avoid an individual serving on multiple councils/committees.

Individuals wishing to be appointed on an ASSP council/committee/task force must complete the appropriate form posted to the Leadership Connection page on the ASSP website.

All submissions received through the form will be provided to the leader(s) responsible for the appointments. All submissions that meet minimum requirements will be reviewed using ASSP’s selection rubric. The initial review will be anonymous with key distinguishing information removed. Appointments will be made based on the ability of the individual to fulfill the duties of the council or committee, as outlined in the council/committee position description based on the template provided and calibrated to ensure balance of perspectives and experiences.

All appointments shall be approved by the ASSP Board of Directors.
